What is the tanning process?

Tanning occurs when the skin produces pigment to protect itself from UV rays. In custom tanning, the tanning solution is applied by a technician using a spray gun and sunless tanning solution. The tanning solution contains on active ingeredient, DHA, that reacts with the outer layer of skin, producing a bronzing effect. The maximum generation of color is reached within 8 to 12 hours, so the color will continue to darken after the initial application. Most of the added bronzer will come off in the first shower after application. We recommend the client does not use their best white towels and favorite white sheets for at least 2 days after the spray tan application. Some bronzer may stain, but for the most part bronzer will wash off clothing and bedding.

What results should I expect?

When sprayed, the bronzer (color guide) will produce an immediate coloration. The DHA tan should develop within 8 to 12 hours. After the bronzer is washed off, a beautiful natural tan should result in skin coloration that is 1 to 2 shades darker. Multiple applications will produce deeper color. It must be emphasized that the pigments resulting from a spray tan DOES NOT provide UV protection, but may minimize burning.

How soon can I shower after Custom Tan?

For best results, allow at least 8 to 12 hours after a tanning session before showering.

How do I maintain my Spray Tan?

Apply moisturizer morning and evening after your first post-tan shower. Mositurize daily thereafter. Hydrated skin is essential in maintaining a longer lasting tan.

How long will the tan last?

7 to 10 days depending on how well the client moisturizes at home. Do not use an exfoliator scrub until you feel it's time to take off the old tan. We also recommend professional scrub treatments in between sprays to renew your skin and get the maximum benefits of our spray tan.

YES. The FDA approved Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a sugar can derivative that results in the tan, for safety, in 1973. When applied to the skin, DHA penetrates only the top layer of skin, it does not absorb into the body or bloodstream.

Clients often ask how to extend their sunless tan beyond the customary 5-7 days. Sunless tanning treatments affect both the melanin and the top layer of skin., which naturally 'sloughs off' each day. The best way to slow this natural exfoliation is to follow these tips.

Moisturize twice daily for at least 10 days after the treatment. Don't stop moisturizing just because the tan fades.
Avoid heavy sweating, hot tubs, jacuzzis, massages or other activities that make your skin exfoliate rapidly.
Use a tan extender, which contains a low level of DHA (sunless tanning ingredient) that will give your tan a boost that last up to 10 or 12 days.
